The Éco-quartier program of the City of Montreal aims to educate and implicate citizens in order to improve their quality of life.
For those who do not know yet, the éco-quartier program has existed in the city of Montreal since 1995. The Éco-quartiers are offices of environmental awareness which offer citizens services connected to four mandates: waste management, cleanliness, beautification and urban nature. If there is an éco-quartier in your borough, this is where you will find your recycling bins, composters and information on various environmental initiatives. The work that the éco-quartiers undertake is very important, and they could never do it without the help of many volunteers. If you are concerned about the environment and the quality of life in your community then you are invited to involve yourself with your éco-quartier.

Difference between an éco-quartier and an ecocentre
The ecocenter is a site of re-employment, recovery and valorization that is open to all the citizens residing on the island of Montreal. They recuperate materials that are not accepted in the regular collection of household waste such as: clothing, household appliances, cumbersome objects, construction or demolition materials, used tires, household hazardous waste, wood, dirt, etc. By making it a priority for citizens to sort materials at home, the ecocenter makes it possible to re-employ or recuperate recyclable materials and thus contributes to the reduction of waste sent to landfills.
