During the past three years, the members of S.O.S. Planète (the founding organization of our éco-quartier), have knocked on many doors in the community, trying to convince the municipalities to adopt proactive decisions vis-a-vis the importance of environmental issues such as waste management and ecological stewardship. They implicated themselves with other local organizations like the “Tables de quartier”, the Carrefour Jeunesse Emploi, the Local Development Centre, many borough councils and took part in as many public events as possible. Several times, the members wondered whether they were going to be able to keep the troops moral up, but did not give up, because they saw other interesting projects taking form in communities everywhere on the planet: ordinary people trying to change the world in their community. And in December 2006, Pierrefonds-Roxboro, a new borough of the City of Montreal, decided to take up the challenge by investing in the Éco-quartier program. S.O.S. Planète was one of the organizations to take part in the invitation to manage the Éco-quartier.

Opening Day:

On April 14, 2007, S.O.S. Planète and the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro welcomed citizens to the grand opening of the Pierrefonds-Roxboro Éco-quartier.
